Misinformation in times of the pandemic
Room 109, Building 9, St Eloi campus Machine Learning in Montpellier, Theory & Practice Messages posted on Twitter reveal that many individuals believe COVID is a hoax: either that the virus does not exist, is transmitted through 5G towers or is a bioweapon. Insights into how these pieces of information affect risk attitudes, behaviours and, hence, health outcomes help in designing credible policy aimed at containing the pandemic. However, identifying impact of misinformation on health outcomes is not trivial. The development of the pandemic itself likely influences the prevalence of misinformation. The goal of this project is to develop strategies to identify and follow arguments related to misinformation with the view of understanding how can COVID-related misinformation can be combatted.
